Ardabil

Ardabil is a historical city in north-western Iran. The name Ardabil probably comes from the Zoroastrian name of “Artavil” which means a holy place. It is one of the Azerbaijani inhabited provinces of Iran. It is in the north west of the country. Its centre is the city of Ardabil. The province was established in 1993 from the eastern part of East Azarbaijan and the northern part of Gilan. The north east of the province is inhabited by the Talysh people.
